Kiev Major 2017: SG e-sports slays Team Secret
Brazilian team SG e-sports has done the impossible by defeating top-seeded Team Secret 2-1 in an intoxicating 3 game series in the Kiev Major as the Brazilian Dota scene rose to popularity overnight.
This series, popularly dubbed as the ‘David vs Goliath’ match was decided even before the match started as Team Secret was the top seeded team in the group stage. There was no way that Team Secret was going to lose a series to a newcomer in the Professional scene. But, all that turned to dust as SG e-sports made a comeback and won Game 2 and Game 3 in the most dominating way possible. There was never a chance for SG e-sports to advance as the Kiev Major was meant to be a learning experience for them.
Game 1
The draft by the Brazilian team wasn’t up to the mark with Team Secret outdrafting them completely. This didn’t stop SG from giving their best as they held on for 28 minutes against a rampant Team Secret.
The first blood went to Team Secret as they claimed 4dr in the first minute. The next 5 minutes saw Team Secret accumulate 4 more kills, thus laying a path to the win. A number of bad teamfights and an angry MidOne made it more difficult for SG e-sports as they called GG in the 28th minute.
Game 2
Confident with Game 1 in the bag, Puppey became too cocky as he
drafted a weaker team against SG. SG went on to rip Team Secret apart as they won multiple team fights. Great map awareness this time around helped SG a lot. Both teams were involved in a team fight in the 10th minute where SG immaculately cleaned the entire Team Secret lineup with a defensive wall from the Dark Seer and amazing plays from the Disruptor.
Game 3
Game 3 started out with SG gaining a slight advantage over Team Secret despite 4dr giving out the first blood. Some good decision making and map awareness from SG led to Puppey dying 4 times in the first 15 minutes. MidOne was pawned two times due to amazing rotations from SG. But, the 20th minute saw SG slipping out under pressure as they gave Team Secret a 7k lead. It wasn’t until the 35th minute that SG would regain control of the match as tavo’s epicenter wiped 4 Team Secret players out. From that moment, Team Secret could never make a come back as SG e-sports slammed them to the ground. The defeat can also be attributed to the negligent drafting by Puppey who thought that there would never come a time when SG could take a series from them.
Even though the Slark was amazing throughout the game, it was tavo who stole the show with his clutch epicenters and burrow strikes.
