5. Templar Assassin

Lanaya, the Templar Assassin, can strip armor from her enemies quicker than a roadrunner on speed. And because her natural skill set is suited to armor reduction, many players decide to build Stygian Desolator or Assault Cuirass. Take care when playing against Spectre, Abaddon, Crystal Maiden and Venomancer. She generally has a hard time against these heroes.

Yes, she does, actually.

High winrate items on Templar:

  • Butterfly (76.33%)
  • Daedalus (70.36%)
  • Monkey King Bar (67.16%)
  • Manta Style (66.82%)
  • Sange and Yasha (64.27%)
  • Black King Bar (53.87%)
  • Stygian Desolator (53.17%)

4. Tinker

One of my favorite heroes of all time! Boush the Tinker is at his strongest when he can generate enough mana to sustain his ult, Rearm, which resets the cooldowns on most of his items. Soul Ring is a beginning game item you should consider, as it’ll allow you to hardcore harass or farm with March of Machines. And the combination of Boots of Travel and Rearm gives him unparalleled pushing potential.

And there's nothing you can do about it.

High winrate items on Tinker:

  • Bloodstone (65.51%)
  • Shiva’s Guard (63.72%)
  • Ethereal Blade (63.61%)
  • Boots of Travel (62.80%)
  • Scyth of Vyse (59.15%)
  • Dagon (59.12%)
  • Aghanim’s Scepter (55.53%)
  • Aether Lens (54.58%)

3. Death Prophet

Krobelus the Death Prophet is a versatile semi-carry that has enjoyed a lot of popularity among pro players. She does well early game with a Magic Wand, and a Null Talisman can give her an edge as well. Watch out when playing against Spectre, Abaddon, Omniknight, and Necrophos. These heroes tend to win out over the Death Prophet.

  • Bloodstone (58.92%)
  • Pipe of Insight (57.10%)
  • Aether Lens (56.88%)

2. Pudge

Ugh, what a bruiser. Nothing worse than being pulled out of your lane by a meathook already wet with the blood of your allies. Unless, of course, you’re playing Pudge. Then it’s a heck of a good time! Pudge benefits early game from items like Bottle, Urn of Shadows, and Magic Stick/Wand. After that, Pudge is highly situational. Abaddon, Ursa, and Wraith King are three heroes you’ll want to be careful playing against as Pudge.

High winrate items on Pudge:

  • Lotus Orb (64.97%)
  • Aghanim’s Scepter (63.69%)
  • Blink Dagger (56.79%)
  • Aether Lens (56.67%)

1. Storm Spirit

Topping our list at #1 is Raijin the Storm Spirit. Fun fact, the word “Raijin” in Japanese (雷神 / らいじん) translates to “God of Thunder.” Pretty neat, huh? Storm’s another hero that benefits from an early Magic Stick/Wand to keep him active mid while ganking top and bot, but Bottle can also up his aggression factor by helping him stay in the action. Abaddon, Ursa, Wraith King, and Riki tend to trip up Storm.

Honorable Mentions:

Drow Ranger

Drow Ranger truly performs well in the semi-carry role of position 2, but I tend to like her more as a hard carry. She has all the farm potential, lane control, and damage to perform the role of semi-carry well, but an escape/initiating ability would really up her value in position 2. When playing Drow as solo mid, I highly recommend you get either a Blink Dagger or Silver Edge.

High winrate items on Drow:

  • Butterfly (74.61%)
  • Daedalus (66.64%)
  • Silver Edge (65.90%)
  • Manta Style (65.73%)
  • Monkey King Bar (65.39%)
  • Shadow Blade (51.79%)
  • Power Treads (50.69%)

Skywrath Mage

Descending from the heavens with nukes, disables, and support in the form of his magic amplifying Ancient Seal, we like Dragonus the Skywrath Mage a whole lot. His winrating was a little low to make the top 10 list, but since we decided to add some honorable mentions, here he is! Early game, you’ll want plenty of mana regen in the form of clarity potions, a Magic Stick, maybe even a Voidstone. Rod of Atos is a strong core item, giving Skywrath health, intelligence, and an active slow that gives him a chance to bring his abilities to bear on his enemies.

Judging by that face, he thinks it might.
